What is Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT)?

Collagen Induction Therapy is one of the most sought out treatments right now to improve skin appearance without invasive procedures - this introduction will tell you more about it.

Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) is a non-invasive treatment of the skin, which improves the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, making your skin appear younger, fresher and more hydrated.

It is one of the most sought-after treatments right now precisely because it is non-invasive, painless and quick. Also known as Microneedling, it is one of the services offered by Sublime Beauty.

Who Can Benefit from CIT?

Anyone with the following can benefit from a course of CIT with Sublime Beauty.

  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Acne scarring
  • Surgery scars
  • Skin that you feel has lost some firmness

CIT can be applied to other parts of the body – not just the face.

How is CIT Administered?

Microscopic perforations are made to the skin using a small handheld machine. It contains a single-use super fine 9-needle head cartridge (about the size of a 5p coin). These perforations force the skin to react and repair them. As it repairs them, it produces collagen and as we all know, collagen is responsible for the firmness and smoothness of our skin.

Sadly, our collagen production decreases drastically with age, so we use our youthful look. CIT rectifies that by kick-starting collagen production again.

CIT is not a one-off treatment and instead consists of a short course of sessions, applied to the affected area.

CIT Variations

There are variations to this treatment. Some therapists use water to enable the machine to glide over the skin, while others add serums such as Hyaluronic Acid and vitamins. Both of these are absorbed into the skin via the microscopic perforation, encouraging an even smoother and firmer result. But not all serums are the same! I use the same serums that are used in Harley Street (purchased directly from Harley Street Microblading Academy), so that you benefit from excellent results without the train journey or price tag – remember Sublime Beauty operates on a mobile basis!

What are the Benefits of CIT?

If you’re wondering how this can benefit you (other than me saying it’s amazing), here are the benefits:

CIT Can Prevent Aging

Ideal for those who want to look younger, but don’t want to undergo invasive surgery or botox. With a course of this treatment, you will see a reduction of fine lines and wrinkles. In addition, the jawline can appear more lifted as the collagen production firms the skin.

CIT Is Painless

There is no need to numb the area being treated. Only the very top layer of the skin is worked on and the sensation feels very much like a detoxing exfoliation.

CIT Helps Skin to Hydrate

You look more hydrated from the very first treatment and skin appears smoother. This is because the hyaluronic acid (and any vitamins you wish to add) are inserted into the skin. Hyaluronic acid is naturally produced by your body and its main function is to retain water, to keep your tissue well lubricated and moist. When it gets absorbed by your skin during the CIT procedure it naturally hydrates and promotes healthier, more supple skin. And let’s not forget, hydrated skin also reduces the appearance of wrinkles!

Scars May Seem Lighter

Those left with reminders of their acne days or chicken pox torture can decrease the severity of their scarring.

What is Collagen Induction Therapy Not Suitable For?

Amazing as this treatment is, I would urge you not to pursue CIT if any of the below conditions applies to you:

  • Active acne
  • Herpes (cold sores) or any other local infection such as warts
  • Chronic skin disease such as eczema or psoriasis
  • Extreme keloidal (raised scar) tendency
  • Blood disease or disorder
  • You are taking an anticoagulant (blood thinning) medication
  • You are undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy

What Happens After Having Collagen Induction Therapy?

After CIT, you may appear a little sun-kissed for 48 hours. This is normal and your skin may feel sensitive to the touch. Be gentle with your skin and treat it only with cool water and a gentle cleanser.

From 2 to 3 days after the treatment, the affected area is likely to peel. This is due to the rejuvenated skin cells coming through. Don’t pick or scratch!

For these initial few days you’ll also want to avoid any activity that causes excess sweating – so that rules out HIIT sessions in the gym, saunas etc.

Once the skin stops flaking and no longer feels sore, feel free to introduce your normal skincare routing again.

As with all treatments by Sublime Beauty, I am available for aftercare support.

How Can I Find Out More?

Sublime Beauty offers a FREE consultation whereby I can discuss your requirements and CIT is no different. Please click on the CONTACT button in the website header and submit your details – I’ll be in contact to take things further.
